questions about colonics

I recently posted on social media asking people to message me any questions they had about Colon Hydrotherapy but have been too shy or too scared to ask. The post had such a great response that I’ve taken 5 of the most asked questions and will answer them here in a blog.

Does it Hurt?

Colon Hydrotherapy involves warm, filtered water into the colon via the rectum using a slim single use disposable rectal tube. Some people may experience mild cramping or discomfort during the treatment as the water hydrates the colon and loosens and eliminates the waste, but it should not be painful or hurt. The single use rectal tube is pencil thin and is inserted into the rectum (with the help of lubrication) around 1.5 inches only. Whilst this may seem a strange sensation, especially with your first colonic, it should not be painful or hurt.

Will my therapist see me naked?

The quick answer to this one is no, your therapist won’t see you naked. At Coastal Cleanse we use the state-of-the-art gravity fed Angel of Water open Colon Hydrotherapy system. Your therapist will give you a full induction prior to your session and answer any questions you may have and educate and thoroughly explain to you how to self-insert the rectal tube. The therapist will then leave the room so you can undress from the waist down, follow the instructions given, then, when you are ready and comfortably draped with the supplied drape cloth, you can ring the call bell and the therapist will re enter the room and explain the next steps in your session. Your modesty and dignity are always respected.

Do I have to go to the bathroom the morning of my appointment?

It is not necessary to have a bowel movement just before your appointment, however if you feel the need to do so, please do not try and hold off until your appointment. Just be guided as what feels most comfortable for you on the day.

Am I likely to have an “accident” on the way home after my session?

During your session the water flows gently for approx. 35-40 mins. Your therapist will switch off the water flow for you when its time and you will be given time to stay where you are and continue to release any further water from your session. We also encourage you to spend 5-10 mins in the bathroom here at our clinic, as sometime gravity helps. At Coastal Cleanse our appointment times are longer than most other clinics, so there is no need to feel that you need to rush away after your session. It’s a good idea to stay close to a bathroom for about 15 mins after your session. The more colonics you have, the more you become in tune with your body and will learn to recognise when you have finished releasing the last of the water.

What if I have my period?

While there is no reason why you can’t have a colonic during your period, some ladies prefer to wait until afterwards. It really depends on your own comfort. During your period your body is naturally cleansing itself, so having a colonic during this time can be very beneficial for some ladies.

I hope that’s answered some of your questions! I would love to see the stigma taken out of society about talking about colonics and digestive health. Its waaay too important a subject to be shy or embarrassed about, talking about it can save lives!

Always, remember you can reach out to me anytime and ask me anything, believe me there’s not much I haven’t seen or heard before, so please don’t be shy, ask away!!!
